La cannabis è legale ad Amsterdam? Le regole, in chiaro.

La risposta breve

It's tolerated, not legal. Licensed coffeeshops may sell up to 5 grams a day to adults 18+ with ID, and you can use it there. Buying from anyone else, carrying it across borders, or smoking it in the Red Light District's streets can get you fined or worse.

It's tolerated, not legal

Under the Dutch "gedoogbeleid" (tolerance policy), licensed coffeeshops aren't prosecuted for selling small amounts. Possession of up to 5 g for personal use is generally not prosecuted. Anything outside that system is still illegal.

18+, and bring real ID

Every coffeeshop checks ID at the door or the counter. A passport, national ID card or EU driving licence works. A photo on your phone won't.

5 grams, per person, per day

Shops can sell you up to 5 g a day. Don't ask a friend to buy extra for you. Staff are required to refuse.

Where you can and can't smoke

Inside the coffeeshop, but not mixed with tobacco unless there's a separate smoking room. Since 2023, smoking cannabis on the street is banned in the Red Light District (De Wallen), and many other areas have local bans marked with signs.

No alcohol, no street dealers

Coffeeshops can't sell alcohol, and mixing the two is the fastest way to a bad night. Anyone offering you something on the street is selling something illegal and often fake.

Edibles and strength

Dutch cannabis can be much stronger than what you're used to. Edibles take 30 minutes to 2 hours to kick in, so wait before having more. Start low, go slow, eat something and drink water.

Etiquette that gets you good service

Buy something if you sit down. Ask staff for advice. They want you to have a good time. Keep photos to yourself and your friends, and leave your table tidy.
